Business Factory Food (BFFood), the vertical accelerator for the Galician food sector promoted by the Xunta de Galicia and driven by the Galician Food Cluster (Clusaga) and leading companies in the Galician food industry, participated in Food4Future, the largest food technology fair in northern Spain, which this year took place in Bilbao between May 16 and 18.
BFFood was present at the fair with a shared booth with Clusaga and Bioga, as well as with a representation of food startups: GradHoc, Mundo Healthy, Nigal, Tastelab, and Las Jellys. These companies were able to present their products and have an intense networking agenda with fair attendees. Similarly, the startups participated as speakers in the FoodTech StartUp Forum, showcasing their proposals to participating investors.
For its part, Clusaga, in addition to attending as the driving entity of BFFood, took the opportunity to present its European acceleration project, Food-scalEUp. This initiative, coordinated by the Cluster and involving a total of 10 organizations from 5 European countries, aims to foster the capacity of European regional agri-food digital innovation ecosystems.
In parallel, the 3rd Edition of the Foodtech Innovation Awards was held, awards that recognize companies in the food and beverage industry that are driving innovation and digitalization, and from which two of the companies participating in BFFood’s joint booth were finalists.
Specifically, Mundo Healthy, a spin-off of Clusaga partner company Campomayor, was a finalist for the AZTI Healthy Food Award with Wovo, its new range of healthy products developed from egg whites. On the other hand, in the Most Innovative Startup FoodTech category, NIGAL was a finalist with Libatio, its comprehensive system for real-time monitoring of wine maturation, composed of a smart stopper and a web and mobile platform.
This edition of Food4Future saw the participation of 8,372 food and food technology professionals from 34 different countries, with a total of 287 companies exhibiting the latest technological advances that will transform the food sector in the coming years. In parallel to the fair, at the Food4Future World Summit, 413 global experts debated and analyzed the future of the food and beverage sector, focusing primarily on Artificial Intelligence, the circular economy, alternative proteins, and personalized nutrition.
