The PitchDay for the 8th edition of BFFood brings together 21 innovative startups aspiring to join the acceleration and consolidation programs

On Thursday, July 2, the Fontán Building at the City of Culture of Galicia in Santiago de Compostela hosted the PitchDay for the 8th edition of Business Factory Food (BFFood). This accelerator, specializing in the agri-food sector, is promoted by the Xunta de Galicia and driven by the Galician Food Cluster (Clusaga).

Throughout the day, 21 innovative food-tech projects presented their proposals to the selection committee, anchor companies, collaborating entities, and professionals from the agri-food ecosystem. This key event aimed to select the initiatives that will participate in the acceleration and consolidation phases of the eighth edition of BFFood.

The session was opened by Roberto C. Alonso Ferro, Director of Clusaga, while the official welcome was delivered by Patricia López Quintiá, Deputy Director of Business Innovation at Igape. She highlighted the track record of Business Factory Food, a program that has supported 87 entrepreneurial projects—many of which have evolved into companies that now generate employment, innovation, and added value for the Galician agri-food sector. The event’s opening proceedings were led by Noelia Dosil Mayán, Coordinator of the Innovation, Digital Transformation, and Entrepreneurship Area at Clusaga.

Thirteen startups vie for spots in the acceleration program

During the first three sessions of the day, 13 projects from the incubation phase pitched their proposals to compete for one of the 10 spots in the acceleration program.

The participating startups were:

3. BIOSentinel (Sens Solutions), represented by Deirdre Soutar.
4. Ostras, represented by Evelien Moriau.
5. Thales, represented by Cem Evcim.
6. Chocolates by Peruxiñas, represented by Aitor Castro Maira.
7. Kresko RNAtech, represented by Carla Borini Etichetti.
8. BioRefQui Spa (Biorefinería Química), represented by Maximiliano Andrés Pino Orellana.
9. Agrosintex, represented by Lucia Belga.
10. NanoBioFood (Nano Cuántica), represented by Manuela Alvarez.
11. Galaxy Pack, represented by Andrés Humberto Mora.
12. Luyef Biotechnologies, represented by Mónica Toro.
13. HERMIA – Infood Protein, represented by Neudo Buelvas.

Eight finalist projects apply for the consolidation program

The second part of PitchDay featured the eight finalist projects vying for one of the six spots in the consolidation program, which is geared towards startups with a higher level of business maturity.

Decision coming soon

The event concluded with an acknowledgment of the high quality of the presentations and the work carried out by the participating startups. The decision regarding the projects selected to join the acceleration and consolidation programs of the 8th edition of Business Factory Food will be announced by July 6, following the committee’s evaluation and ratification by Igape.
