Eight projects to be accelerated in the second edition of BFFood

Patricia Argerey, Director of the Galician Innovation Agency (GAIN), Juan Manuel Cividanes, Director of the Galician Institute for Economic Promotion (Igape), and Fernando Guldrís, General Manager of Xesgalicia, announced this morning, following the pitch day, the eight projects that will be accelerated in the second edition of BFFood. The event was also attended by Francisco Conde, Minister of Economy, Employment and Industry of the Xunta de Galicia.

Biopraedium, Galinsect, HEROOJ, Hk_smart:food by himikode, Stateralabs, Smart vitamins, SITRAV and Kiwanda are the initiatives that will access the nine-month comprehensive and specialized support program featuring mentoring, training, coaching, technical services, infrastructures, and resources specifically designed for their field of development, as well as funding from the Xunta de Galicia.

These are the projects forming part of the second edition of BFFood

Biopraedium, an initiative from Santiago de Compostela that provides a solution to the challenge of developing new products, offering its clients a range of domestic solutions with self-consumption and sustainability as main pillars. Hydroponics, aeroponics, and aquaponics are some of the systems they already work with. Ruben Hidalgo, Director of CAPSA V.I.D.A. at CAPSA FOOD (Larsa), will serve as the mentor for this project.

Galinsect, a project from Vigo that presents a solution to the challenge of sustainability in the sector. It offers the breeding and commercialization of insects to satisfy the demand for clean and environmentally sustainable protein for the aquaculture, livestock, and pet markets. Juanjo De la Cerda, Corporate Director of R&D and Quality at Nueva Pescanova Group, and Carlos Alberte, Technical Director of Viticulture at Viña Costeira, will mentor this initiative.

HEROOJ, a project submitted from Barcelona for the challenge of developing new products. Specifically, 100% organic and natural hydrogels, energy bars, hypertonics, and isotonics made with a seawater base, focused on endurance athletes and featuring compostable packaging. This initiative will have the mentorship of Antonio Cortés, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility at Gadisa, and the support of Xaquín Antón, R&D&I Project Director at Clavo Food Factory.

Hk_smart:food by himikode, an initiative from Lugo that responds to the challenge of digitalization and automation in the industry. It facilitates management and guarantees the traceability, safety, and sustainability of products operating in the Horeca channel, connecting brands with their customers in real time. Alejandro Álvarez, Financial Director of Cafés Candelas, will serve as the mentor for this project.

Stateralabs – DHA Liposomes with curcumin and vitamin D, a project from Santiago de Compostela developing new products. It establishes the creation of three product lines: Healthinfoods (nutraceuticals aimed at athletes, pregnant women, and people with ailments), Equinhealth (bioceuticals for competition horses), and Healthinfoods Bioactives (bioactive ingredients for different food matrices). Ruben Hidalgo, Director of CAPSA V.I.D.A. at CAPSA FOOD (Larsa), and Iago Quintana, General Manager of Dairylac, will mentor this initiative.

Smart vitamins – Bioactive nanocapsules for autoimmune diseases, an idea developed at CIMUS by the laboratory of María José Alonso, Professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela and expert in the field of nanopharmaceutical technology and nanomedicine. It seeks to validate the biological effect of an emulsion of bioactive compound nanocapsules that are easily integrable into different foods for the treatment of neurodegenerative and autoimmune diseases, administrable orally. Roberto Alonso, Manager of the Galician Food Cluster (Clusaga), will serve as the mentor for this project.

SITRAV – Advanced traceability system, an initiative from Marín (Pontevedra) seeking a solution to the challenge of digitalization and automation in the industry. It develops an intelligent traceability system for the collection, exploitation, and provision of data related to industrial production systems. Mónica Cascallar, Director of Innovation at Congalsa, will mentor the project.

Kiwanda – RFID solutions for inventory and traceability, a project from Santiago de Compostela addressing the logistical challenge of the industry. It offers a solution to inventory and traceability problems in the supply chain, automating identification and control processes thanks to RFID technology. José Carlos Vila, General Manager of Kiwi Atlántico, will serve as the mentor for this initiative.
