BFFood holds the demo day of its second edition
Business Factory Food (BFFood), the vertical accelerator for the Galician food sector, driven by the Xunta de Galicia and energized by the Galician Food Cluster (Clusaga) and leading companies in the Galician food industry, held an entirely online event for the demo day of its second edition.
At the event, the 14 projects promoted in the accelerator’s second edition —Biopraedium, Galinsect, Hk_coffee, Health in foods, Herooj, SITRAV, Smart Vitamins, Kiwanda Food, Sensesbit, Monkey Markets, Muutech, AlphaCloud, REFIX, and Essence Food— presented how their innovative initiatives have addressed the main challenges posed by companies in the Galician food sector.
Specifically, these 14 projects have provided solutions in the thematic areas of new product development; digitalization and automation; traceability, quality, and food safety; logistics; process and commercial innovation; and sustainability and packaging.
During their time in the BFFood entrepreneurship program, these projects received comprehensive and specialized support from the Galician food sector to, depending on their stage of development, design their minimum viable product or service over 9 months in the acceleration program, or consolidate their first sales in the 12-month consolidation program.
In addition, each of the startups received mentoring from leading companies in the sector to guide and facilitate their development within the entrepreneurial ecosystem, as well as access to specific funding in the form of non-repayable grants and participating loans.
In this regard, the president of the Galician Food Cluster (Clusaga), Juanjo De la Cerda, who also serves as a mentor at BFFood, highlighted that, “in total, more than 450 hours of mentoring and coaching were provided in the second edition, and the projects received 64 hours of training.”
These figures, he indicated, “are the result of the joint work of Clusaga with the Xunta de Galicia, through Gain, Igape, and XesGalicia, the driving companies Bodegas Martín Códax, Cafés Candelas, Calvo, Clavo Food Factory, Congalsa, CLUN, Gadis, Galacteum, Kiwi Atlántico, CAPSA FOOD (Larsa), Nueva Pescanova, Quescrem, Torre de Núñez, and Viña Costeira, the three Galician public universities, and the network of collaborators.”
For his part, the Second Vice President and Minister of Economy, Business, and Innovation, Francisco Conde, highlighted BFFood’s work in strengthening the competitiveness and digital transformation of the Galician food sector.
The third edition of BFFood will begin next month
In February, BFFood, which is part of the StartIN Galicia accelerator platform supported by the regional public administration, will announce the innovative entrepreneurship projects that will be promoted in its third edition. The registration process, which ended on January 11, received 62 applications. Of these, up to ten initiatives will be selected for the acceleration program and up to six for the consolidation program, with the aim of offering disruptive solutions to address the new challenges in the food and beverage sector.
This new edition will also feature the mentoring program with the support of four new driving companies: DS Smith, Grupo Pereira, LENCE (Grupo Leche Río), and Vegalsa – Eroski, joining the other entities that have supported BFFood since its inception.
